We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Dr. Kraig Kirkdorfer has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine. Chiropractic care under a trained professional can even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health or wellness.

There are many TECHNIQUES which chiropractors can specialize in and employ in spinal adjustments. Here at Lake Michigan Chiropractic, Dr. Kraig uses a variety of different methods depending on each patient and his or her condition.

Activator Method
Activator Method – Next to the Diversified technique, the Activator Adjusting Instrument is reported to be the most common therapeutic intervention used by chiropractors. A spring-loaded, hand-held mechanical instrument called the Activator Adjusting Instrument provides a quick, gentle, low-force impulse at specific points to the spine with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted spinal vertebra or joint.  There are two theoretical advantages of an Activator instrument-assisted treatment. The first is based on the speed of the device. The instrument is so quick that the body's muscles are less likely to tense in response, and resist the treatment. The lack of muscle resistance may facilitate the treatment effectiveness. The second is that the applied force is localized and does not add any additional torque or bending movement to the joint.

Diversified – The Diversified technique derives from the work of Dr. D.D. Palmer and is taught in most chiropractic colleges across the world. It involves a gentle but quick thrust or other movement of the spine to restore healthy alignment, mobility , and normal biomechanical function. The Diversified technique has also been developed to adjust extremity joints as well, allowing for beneficial applications in treating sports injuries and other injuries.

Gonstead Technique – The Gonstead technique is based on the work of Dr. Clarence Gonstead in the 1920s. A graduate of the famous Palmer School of Chiropractic, he explored principles of mechanics to working with the spine. The Gonstead technique of chiropractic is a method of chiropractic assessment and adjustments that is very methodical, precise, and scientific. The Gonstead adjustments themselves are more precise than a typical chiropractic adjustment, which allows the doctor to use a more gentle thrust, while still moving the bone.  The Gonstead technique is characterized by its specific hands-on adjusting of only the offending segments of the spine and extremities. Accuracy is all important to the Gonstead chiropractor. Gonsteaders take enough time with each patient on each visit to find the specific problem and correct it with the most biomechanically sound system available. We find the problem on the patient, we accept it where we find it, we adjust it using as little force as necessary, and finally, we leave it alone to heal. The goal of the Gonstead doctor is to get you to a better place as quickly as possible with as few adjustments as necessary. The results speak for themselves. Many people are amazed by the results obtained by Gonstead doctors from all over the world.

Thompson Drop-Table Technique

Thompson Drop-Table Technique
 – The Thompson technique is based on the work of Dr. Clay Thompson, who applied his engineering background to the process of adjusting patients’ spines. Clay Thompson’s technique utilized methods such as moving parts of adjusting tables which drop when pressure is applied, imparting gentle but firm force to precise places on a given patient’s body, especially spinal areas. In addition, the Thompson technique utilizes rebound effects of quick movements, called “toggle recoil”; leg length check analysis, and more.

Digital X-Ray

On-site Digital X-rays and Electronic Health Records

Lake Michigan Chiropractic is proud to be the first chiropractic office in Southwest Michigan to feature a completely digital x-ray facility. Utilizing the newest digital imaging technology allows Dr. Kraig to quickly take any necessary images and analyze them immediately. Lake Michigan Chiropractic also features the most up to date Electronic Health Records (EHR). We use the same software that is used in today's top chiropractic colleges to create thorough and detailed patient notes for each visit, to accurately track your progress and care. X-rays are usually not taken on children unless scoliosis is suspected. Also, for safety reasons, x-rays should never be taken if you are pregnant.

It is our office policy that Dr. Kraig see x-rays on every patient before any adjustments are done. While not all chiropractors require that you have x-rays before they will adjust you, we believe you should be weary of a chiropractor that never uses x-rays and does not acknowledge the importance of x-rays as a diagnostic tool.  Just like you wouldn’t want a surgeon cutting blindly into your body, you wouldn’t want a chiropractor performing spinal manipulations or adjustments without knowing the condition of your spine.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Massage therapy offers a natural  treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles. Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in a patient's recovery. Corrective Exercises

Corrective Exercises

At Lake Michigan Chiropractic, Dr. Kraig will personally teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health. These therapeutic exercises are prescribed in conjunction with chiropractic care to heal and strengthen the body and help protect it against future injuries.
